Google's most discussed initiative Accelerated Mobile Pages aka AMP is ready to take off this month on 24. If reports are to be believed, while searching on mobile, users will now be able to see AMP optimized content from publishers in the mobile search results from coming Wednesday.
Google had already slated February being the month for roll out accelerated mobile pages, now, the official date is here. Notably, AMP is on the floor to make web pages faster to load for users by reducing the number of elements users need to download when visiting a web page. AMP has been accepted and acclaimed as a protocol by Twitter, google and many other publishers.
Richard Gingras, senior director, news and social products at Google told AdAge today:
“Clearly, AMP takes speed to a point of extreme so, obviously we look to leverage that. Again, it is only one signal. AMP doesn’t mean adopt AMP and get a massive boost in search ranking. That is not the case. All of the other signals need to be satisfied as well. But without question speed matters. If we had two articles that from a signaling perspective scored the same in all other characteristics but for speed, then yes we will give an emphasis to the one with speed because that is what users find compelling.”
To complement that, recently Google released accelerated mobile pages error reports to assist webmasters having an idea about how to go AMP-friendly.

Is AMP just for news articles? or we can use it for landing pages as well? We haven’t seen any non-news results showing AMP pages yet, or am I missed.

AMP allows you to be served super quickly to users clicking through from Google Search or any platform that points to Google’s AMP cache. Best of all, the AMP format is supported by a wide variety of platforms, not just Google.
