RSS Feeds is basically used for syndication, so that information can be shared by websites of similar theme. although there are other application of RSS feeds, like one can subscribe to RSS feeds from a website to ensure that he is updated with all new articles and news from the website of his choice.
Rss feeds are basically xml documents that contain a sitemap of information of a website that the webmaster is willing to syndicate. Google had included these RSs feeds in the search results and these feeds filled the SERPS occupying important ranking that are quite irrelevant to a visitor who is seeking information on the web.
